NATIONAL triumph is in the sights of upcoming boxer Tom MacDonald.
The 16-year-old has won through to the semi-finals of the junior Amateur Boxing Association championships.
He will fight this weekend in the 65-kilogramme ‘B’ class final against Louis Claridge at the Havercroft and Ryhill youth centre in Wakefield.
MacDonald’s advance is the third successive year in which the York Amateur Boxing Club ace has impressed in the national ABAs.
Two years ago he won the Yorkshire title en route to the national semi-finals, while this time last year the powerful MacDonald retained his Yorkshire crown before being eliminated in the national quarter-finals.
Said YABC head coach Billy Wilson: “Tom has again boxed very well in the national championships. We’re hoping that he will get through this weekend.”
Wilson added YABC is preparing for its next big show under the “Wanted Young Guns” banner, right.
The show will be held at Tramways Working Men’s Club on Thursday, May 2, when Wilson said there could be as many as 16 bouts on the bill.
