STAFF at convenience store are the latest to be nominated for a York Community Pride Award, writes Oliver Clark.
Barbara Pettitt, 76, put the One-Stop shop in Walmgate forward in the Service With A Smile category.
The award is open to any York business which has demonstrate outstanding customer care or any of York’s charitable organisations that operate for the benefit of people in the city.
Mrs Pettitt said: “Service with a smile is what you get. The staff greet you, they always ask how you are, and always smile.
“They are very helpful. They will help you with shopping.
“The staff are a jolly lot and they light up your day. They make you feel like a person, not a nuisance.
“My family always know I have been to the One Stop shop as I come home feeling better. They become part of your life.”
Mrs Pettitt, along with her husband, John, 78, also nominated the staff at the Morrison’s store in Foss Island Road.
Last year, the couple nominated the store for the same award, and it was shortlisted as a finalist.
Mr and Mrs Pettitt said: “All the staff, including management are so helpful. It is no trouble for them to make your shopping a pleasure.”
The couple, who regularly visit the store’s cafe, also praised the café staff, saying they “are very pleasant to us”
Nominations are open until 19 July, 2013. To submit a nominee visit yorkpress.co.uk/pride.
The finalists will all be invited to the awards dinner at York racecourse in October.
