A 37-year-old man has appeared before York magistrates accused of offences against a former girlfriend.
Scott Tuohey, who gave an address in Plainville Lane, Wigginton, is alleged to have hit his ex-partner on five separate occasions over a two-year period and to have given her bruises and a black eye.
He is also alleged to have breached a non-molestation order by going into her kitchen when he was barred from going into her home.
Tuohey denies five charges of causing actual bodily harm to his former girlfriend. All the assault offences were allegedly committed between 2009 and 2011.
He also denies a charge of breaching a non-molestation order made last year for a three-year period. The breach allegedly occurred on January 30 this year.
After hearing details of the case from prosecutor Gaynor Zeki, York magistrates decided that they were prepared to hear the case and he entered his six not guilty pleas.
Tuohey was arrested on Monday and police sent him to court in custody after charging him.
During a lengthy hearing, magistrates heard from both the prosecutor and Tuohey’s solicitor Abbi Whelan about whether Tuohey should be released on bail. They decided that he should remain in custody and ordered him to be remanded until his next hearing.
They adjourned the case until next Monday, when Tuohey will appear before their colleagues through a video link from prison. No date has yet been set for his trial.
