PASSENGERS entitled to discounts on York’s Park & Ride buses will face an increase in fares on Sunday.
The cost of a concessionary ticket to ride will rise by 10p from 60p to 70p when boarding at any Park & Ride site. City of York Council said York’s Park & Ride fares still remained some of the lowest in the country.
A spokeswoman said: “The fares increase was agreed in February’s budget council meeting and will enable the council and First to continue to deliver a high quality Park & Ride service.
“Over the past 12 months, improvement works carried out by City of York Council have included modernising the CCTV equipment at Monks Cross Park & Ride and significant repairs to the car park road surface at Grimston Bar.”
Coun Dave Merrett, cabinet member for transport, planning and sustainability, said the authority had had to make some difficult decisions in its budget, but the Park&Ride service still represented excellent value for money, and was far cheaper than city-centre alternatives.
