THE council’s new footstreet hours have been extended from 10.30am to 5pm, seven days a week, for an 18-month trial period.
I am an 87-year-old lady with limited mobility and a blue badge holder, who finds that I now cannot get a taxi into town, which I do once a week to have my hair done, lunch with a friend and go to the bank, etc.
It is difficult at my age to get supporters for a protest, but I have spoken to several of my contemporaries and we agree that this is an unfair imposition on people of our age and infirmity.
I moved to York after my husband died in 2000, to be near friends and to be able to live independently, near shops and services, and this blow has made me feel despondent about my future.
