ONCE again we hear the clarion call to leave the EU, this time from the estimable Philip Roe (Letters, April 25).
I am no fan of bureaucracy and its inevitable self-serving contradictions, but before I turn to UKIP (let’s face it, there is no way Cameron and Osborne are going to allow a binding in/out referendum) I need an answer to one simple question.
What are those non-EU manufacturing companies whose investment in Britain brings much-needed employment going to do when they lose their tariff-free links with Europe – move to Poland?
Then you have US and Japanese car manufacturing and Far Eastern electronics for starters – and what about Nestlé?
I am ready to be persuaded, but would prefer an answer based on fact and analysis rather than the kind of invective favoured by Daily Mail editorials designed to appeal to the Middle Englander’s distrust of Johnny Foreigner.
