DEREK SHAW is surely correct in his disapproval of anonymous letters (Letters, April 24). We have seen two such published in The Press this month.

If we discount paranoia, this indicates that there are those who legitimately fear their careers or their social life would be blighted by admitting support for Margaret Thatcher or censure of Hugh Bayley.

The identification of these putative victims as “regular contributors” only makes matters worse. As a former Iron Person advised: “Publish and be damned!”
