ALL-CONQUERING York RUFC Under-13s are celebrating a hat-trick of Yorkshire Cup wins.
The Clifton Park youngsters have dominated the competition since their first foray into the cup as U11s.
Their latest triumph was sealed with a 14-0 final victory over West Park Leeds, who received a pre-match team talk from England coach Stuart Lancaster, whose children play for the club.
The holders started the game well and scored a try in the first ten minutes.
The breakthrough followed a number of backline moves and typically rampaging play by Dan Watson, James Black and Max Courtis down the left.
Quick support and a rolling maul by the York forwards forced a penalty five metres out.
Jack Williams took full advantage to quickly recycle ball inside, first to number eight Adam Brown and then to outside centre Watson for the try near the uprights.
Charlie Hudson’s simple conversion made it 7-0 in York’s favour.
Hudson was then denied by a crunching tackle close to the line.
West Park Leeds then pinned York in their own 22 for the majority of the first half.
At the start of the second half, York were still on the back foot but they proved their defence was as strong their attack with a series of try-saving tackles.
West Park Leeds went close only to be brought down by the York back line, but scrum-half Williams and James Mahon started to dictate the play as the second half wore on, showing some excellent decision- making and first-class kicking.
Then, with only 30 seconds left on the clock, some fast hands fed the ball out to the right wing for Hudson to cross for a clinching second try that he also converted.
There was a strong surge by West Park in the last five minutes, but a try-saving tackle by Hudson ensured York’s defence stood firm.
York’s journey to the final began with a 26-7 home victory over Doncaster in round one and they followed that with a 15-15 win against Sandal.
Harrogate were despatched 19-12 at home in the quarter-final before York demolished Otley 46-0 in the last four.
York’s 22-strong squad was: Marcus Thompson, Dan Watson, Alastair Browne, Max Courtis, Max Foxcroft, Henry Barker, Harrison Savage, James Mahon, Ben Wilkinson, Max Boswell, captain Jack Williams, James Black, Harry Taylor, Oscar Hales, Patrick James, Chris Nelson, Charlie Hudson, Herbie Milton, Isaac Philips, Adam Brown, Angus Wilson and Alfie Douglas.
Meanwhile, York are on the lookout for new players.
