A 3-1 victory for York Schoolboys Under-13s at Nottingham kept up the pressure on leaders Leeds.
The York defence were put under pressure early on, but Joe Kemp and Joe Kilvington repelled the home side.
York’s first chance was a free-kick headed wide by Lucas Hindle, while Nottingham drew a fine low save from ’keeper Adam Precious.
Shortly afterwards, York went 1-0 up when Milo Shore’s cross was headed into Max Tweddle’s path by a home defender and he coolly slotted home.
Dan Davison was brought down in the box and Marcus Haigh scored from the spot for a 2-0 half-time lead.
York quickly bagged a third goal after the break when Davison stroked the ball in from inside the area.
When Nottingham broke clear, Precious made a great reflex save and pushed the ball round a post. However, York failed to clear the corner and a first-time shot found the net.
York’s man-of-the-match was Hindle.
York U11s were also 3-1 winners at Nottingham.
A scrappy first-half ended goalless, despite efforts from Charlie Cresswell and Oliver Smith.
York took the lead thanks to a fine strike by Charlie King and Cresswell followed up with a second five minutes later.
Nottingham responded when York failed to clear a back pass, but the visitors made the game safe when Dan Allinson, who had a fine second half, scored a third.
Lucas Wilson was man-of-the-match for the Minster city side.
York U15s’ title hopes were extinguished by a 2-0 home defeat by Barnsley.
York dominated the first half, with Joey McCormick tormenting the visitors and going closest to scoring by hitting the bar.
Barnsley struck twice late in the first period from set-pieces, leaving York with an uphill battle after the break.
McCormick failed to convert when through one on one only two minutes into the second half, while Kris Fawcett also went close.
Man-of-the-match was Nial Coulthard.
