A YORK man has been fined for assaulting a police officer.
Mark Anthony Banner, 50, of Clarence Street, pleaded guilty at York Magistrates’ Court to a charge of assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty.
The court heard police were called to an address in White Rose Avenue in the early hours of April 1 after reports he had cut himself on glass.
On arrival, police saw broken glass and found Banner, 50, asleep upstairs, with a cut to his chin.
Paramedics were called, and told Banner he needed hospital treatment.
As he was leaving the house he decided to return for his tobacco, but an officer stood in his way and advised him to go with the paramedics.
Banner pushed the officer and struggled with him until he was handcuffed and arrested, the court heard.
Neil Cutte, representing Banner, said Banner had been on a night out, and was “well in drink” at the time, but it was “as much and as little as a push”.
Banner, who received six stitches for the wound, was fined £70 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and prosecution costs of £85.
