Curry night raises £6,000 for charity A Yorkshire barracks played host to a charity event which has raised £6,000 for the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF).
The Barclays Big Curry night was hosted by Imphal Barracks, York and featured a wide range of traditional curries and Ghurkha-inspired dishes.
ABF is now in its sixth year encouraging people to take part in Big Curry events, and all money goes to provide lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families.
Half of the money they receive goes directly to individuals to help ease the burden of debt, mobility assistance, education bursaries, carehome costs and respite breaks. The other half is given as grants to other charities.
ABF plans to increase its fundraising to £14 million by 2015, as demand for help increases.
This is the second time the Yorkshire Dales Meat Company, have provided meat for the Big Curry. James Knox, finance director of the company said: “It is an honour to be involved in raising funds for ABF, The Soldiers’ Charity as they provide such a valuable service to our troops.”
