YOU printed two items regarding diabetes, one from Barbara Young, chief executive of Diabetes UK, pronouncing that Type 1 diabetics struggle to keep their blood sugars under control.
It certainly is difficult. I do not smoke or drink and have lost three stones in weight on the most basic of diets and still the blood sugars fluctuate, which is frustrating.
As for us “missing out” according to Linda Wood, regional manager UK Diabetes Northern, with cutbacks, it would appear we will be fortunate to be seen twice a year (The Press, April 22).
I was seen by my specialist in January and was being seen every three months. Now it will not be until June, a six-month lapse; very worrying for an older diabetic of two years illness.
I can ring the diabetic clinic at York Hospital, where the excellent receptionists take details and one of the two nurses phone back eventually.
Two of the more experienced diabetic nurses left at Christmas and have not been replaced. So how can we get the service we deserve?
I am grateful to the diabetic nurses and clinic staff, but there is no one there at the weekends.
