SIMON Dyson’s love affair with golf in the Far East was evidenced again when he blasted into the business end of the Ballantine’s Open in South Korea, writes Tony Kelly.
The York-born ace, who won the Far East tour in his rookie year as a professional 13 years ago, and also includes two Indonesian Open crowns in his six championships on the European Tour, ended a run of four consecutive tournaments of missing the cut after completing 22 holes on the second day.
Level par after 14 holes from a thunderstorm and lightning- interrupted first day, Dyson finished one-under for the round.
He started the second round with a double-bogey six on the second hole dropping shots also on the 12th and 13th holes. But the world number 120 rallied with four birdies on four, nine, 16 and 18 to post a 72 and a half-way score of one-under-par – two clear of the projected cut.
The halfway leaders on seven-under were Australia’s Wade Ormsby and Arnond Vongvanij, of Thailand.
