MARTIN LESTER, an outstanding York swimmer and water-polo player has died at his home in Osbaldwick. He was 68.
A long-time member of York City Baths Club, he competed in many championships across the north of England.
As a water-polo player he represented York, Yorkshire and the North-East and had trials for the full England team. Said former York captain David Clegg: “Martin was an exceptional player for us. He was very strong and formidable.”
Born and educated in York, Lester was an accountant all his working life. He was a partner in Plummer, Clarkson and Lester (now PCLG) for 40 years.
He leaves his wife, Judy, and son Tom. The funeral service is at York Crematorium on Wednesday, May 8, at 11am.
