PLANS for support services for vulnerable York residents to come under the control of a social enterprise are to be discussed next month.

City of York Council’s cabinet is to consider a plan for the authority’s community equipment loan and warden call and telecare service to be run by an independent body, with staff having a “significant stake” in its operation.

The council, which would own part of the company, said the service had grown by 142 per cent since 2004 and the move would allow it to expand. Warden call provides a 24-hour monitoring and response facility to 3,000 people, and the telecare service has more than 1,600 customers.
