ON A Monday recently, traffic on the A1079, in both directions, was extremely seriously inconvenienced for several hours due to a wide load being transported from York to Hull docks.
I would question the logic of this route and the need and cost to dismantle and re-erect hundreds of road signs. I would also like to know who planned the route and who paid the cost of the necessary work.
An old friend who was an HGV driver suggested a far more sensible alterative along motorways and wide carriageways which would still need police escorts, but would allow the load to be moved far more quickly and with far less inconvenience.
The suggested route was west along to A64 to join the A1 then east on the M62 to join the A63 and go straight to the docks.
