THE University of York has been named the best in Yorkshire and the Humber and the 12th best in the UK, according to new league tables unveiled.
The Complete University Guide rankings said it was “substantially” ahead of its nearest regional rival, the University of Sheffield in 26th place, and is in the top ten nationally for 11 of its 26 subjects.
Cambridge topped the table of 124 UK universities, with Oxford second and the London School of Economics third. York St John University was eighth in Yorkshire and 99th in the country, up four places on last year.
