RESIDENTS in rural areas are urged to remain vigilant following a spate of fuel thefts from vehicles.
North Yorkshire Police have extended the warning after reports of fuel being stolen form HGVs, horseboxes and tractors.
On April 13, a horsebox was targeted in Monk Fryston, with thieves also taking a number of batteries. On April 18, a horsebox was also attacked at a property in Carlton.
A farm in Hensall has been targeted twice, with fuel being stolen from a tractor on February 28, and from a JCB Fast Track on March 19.
PCSO Laura Simpson said it was not clear whether the thefts were linked. She said: “Theft of fuel from vehicles is certainly on the rise within the district.”
Police advise people to park with the vehicle’s fuel tank side against a wall, to prevent access to it.
