WITH the county council elections looming on Thursday, I was pleased to receive two election leaflets.
Living in the South Selby ward, which incidentally is to the north of the town, only two candidates have bothered to tell me why I should vote for them.
Rod Price, Labour, has used some rather odd terminology, especially when it comes to education. He is of the opinion that North Yorkshire Education’s woes are down to the government.
Really? Who reduced education funding year on year to the shire counties? Labour of course. He wants my vote, and I quote, time for a change locally and nationally. These are county elections Mr Price.
David McSherry, standing as an independent, makes some wonderful claims in his leaflet, including the introduction of a 40mph speed limit along the A63 at Cliffe and Hemingbrough. Wrong, the speed limit was broken up so that Cliffe is not fully covered and the most dangerous reverse bends between the two villages remain at 60mph.
This was achieved by Mr McSherry getting the original plans modified. He goes on to say that 80 percentile proportion of the traffic on the A63 travels within the 40mph limit.
So, why is it that the latest covert speed checks reveal that only 49 percentile of the traffic drives within the limit?
David Rhodes, The Shrubberies, Cliffe.
