VETERAN motorcycle racer Bob Farrington is celebrating his first-ever win at Oliver’s Mount in Scarborough – at the age of 60.

Farrington, based at Rawcliffe, near Selby, also achieved two seconds and a third-place finish on his 400cc bike at the Spring National meeting in front of a huge crowd.

Farrington performed well in qualifying on his 1,000cc and 400cc bikes, but the 1,000 developed a gearbox problem and was withdrawn from the races.

In the opening 400 race, Farrington was second behind Alastair Howarth.

Race five brought another podium finish, this time in third after overcoming some waterpump problems.

Farrington then broke his Oliver’s Mount duck by winning race ten, clocking the fastest lap in the process.

Races 15 and 16 were combined after a crash occuring during race 14 and Farrington responded to claim an admirable second place.

The reigning Northern Formula Two champion still has many racing ambitions and hopes to improve on the eighth position gained in last year’s Manx Grand Prix Lightweight race. He was first in the club team award. Further information about Farrington is available by visiting the www.bobfarringtonracing.co.uk website.
