THERE was a chance to learn some tips from a master of the kitchen when Ashley McCarthy, chef proprietor of Ye Old Sun Inn at Colton, near York, staged a demonstration of some of his dishes in aid of Age UK York.
The evening also marked the launch of Age UK York’s 2013 baking competition to find the best home bakers in town.
Sally Hutchinson, chief officer of Age UK York, said: “We have been helping and supporting older people in York for more than 40 years and the demand for our services and support is increasing all the time.
“Last year, we held our first baking competition to help us raise additional funds.
“It was such a success that we are now going to make it an annual event. This year we are asking all the wonderful home bakers in York to make us something for our competition on Tuesday, when entries in a variety of classes will be judged by experts from Bettys.
“We’ll then be selling all the entries at our café and sale day at St Crux on Wednesday. So whether you want to bake us a super sponge, get creative with your cup cakes, or rustle up some scones, biscuits or flapjacks, you will be helping older people across York.”
