IN YOUR coverage of York City’s win last Saturday (The Press Sports, April 29), fulsome praise was given to captain Chris Smith, manager Nigel Worthington, the York City board, old Uncle Tom Cobley and all, but nary a mention of the man who took them to Wembley twice and into league two in the first place, Gary Mills.
In three articles by Dave Flett, quotes from the captain, various Minstermen, and communications and community director Sophie Hicks, not one word about the man who, this time last year, could have walked across the Ouse, such was his god-like status in the city.
Ms Hicks says Worthington has given them confidence, work ethic and motivation.
So what did Mills use to get them out of the Blue Square Premier and into the football league? A rabbit’s foot, a four-leaf clover and a lucky horse shoe?
