A NEW board which is being set up to oversee schemes aimed at reducing inequality in York is looking for members and a chairman.
City of York Council is leading the recruitment drive for the group, run through the city’s Without Walls Partnership, from areas including businesses, the voluntary sector and organisations which provide specialist support to groups affected by discrimination or disadvantage.
The Fairness and Equalities Board’s immediate focus will be on areas of society such as those living in York’s most deprived wards, people with mental health issues and members of minority communities.
Coun Sonja Crisp, whose cabinet portfolio includes equalities, said: “The council and its partners are committed to making sure everybody enjoys the excellent quality of life our city offers and to ensuring York is an equal, inclusive and welcoming city.
“The members and chair of the board, who can come from a variety of sectors, will be tasked with reducing inequality within the city, an incredibly rewarding position.”
Those interested in joining the board should make their interest known by May 17 by emailing charlie.croft@york.gov.uk describing why they would be interested and what they can bring to the partnership.
More details, including membership categories and a job specification for the position of chairman, are at yorkwow.org.uk/inclusive-wow.
