A YORK MP has called for the city and its residents to be given more powers to block wind farms after sites earmarked for turbines were revealed.
City of York Council’s draft Local Plan has listed several potential locations for wind farms, including between Bad Bargain Lane and Stockton Lane.
York Outer MP Julian Sturdy said decisions about where they are placed should be made locally.
In a letter to Communities and Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles, he said he feared residents would be “powerless” to stop turbines unless planning policy gave them a greater say.
He said: “I am extremely concerned and alarmed by the scale and quantity of proposed renewable energy sites within the Local Plan and have very little faith in the council’s ability to carry out a thorough and inclusive consultation process and act on the views of residents.”
