PUPILS at York schools have been getting into the May Day spirit.
A maypole was set up in the hall at Woodthorpe Primary School for nursery and reception children to dance around as part of their projects.
The nursery class have been learning about traditional tales and the May Day celebration gave them a chance for a rendition of their Goldilocks song.
Meanwhile, reception pupils have also created their own tune about superheroes, complete with dance actions.
“We are really proud of the way all the pupils worked together and how the reception pupils helped the younger children,” said a school spokeswoman.
At Nun Monkton Foundation Primary School, pupils got in some maypole practice ahead of the village’s Feast Day, in honour of St Peter, next month, which will be staged on the village green and include a range of stalls of activities for residents and visitors.
The school’s 24 pupils will be maypole dancing and country dancing on the day and have also been taking part in an art competition. The feast day was organised by the Parent, Teacher and Friends Association.
May Day was also marked in East Yorkshire, with the Rackaback Border Morris dancers performing music and dancing at Beverley Westwood as the sun rose yesterday.
