SOME lead singers are the band they represent. Debbie Harry was Blondie, Mick Hucknall will forever be Simply Red, and so Hayley Williams should be known as Paramore.
The red-haired rocker originally formed Paramore in Franklin, Tennessee, in 2004, with brothers Josh and Zac Farro. The band scored big hits, but the Farro brothers fell out with Ms Williams, hence the recruitment of Jemery Davis and Taylor York.
Unfathom-ably, the new Paramore have engaged with emo audiences globally, scoring a runaway number one hit album in the UK as well as the US, Australia and South America. Strangely, there is nothing interesting or distinctive about Paramore that is not covered by the likes of Kelly Clarkson or April Lavigne.
For those of an older generation, parallels with Kim Wilde’s rockier back catalogue are easy to spot. Sadly, Wilde’s CDs are rarely released outside Germany, whereas Paramore have the world at their sneakers.
