Jamie Oliver has been named the best TV foodie of all time.

The celebrity chef - who has hosted a string of cookery shows on Channel 4, including 'Jamie's School Dinners' and 'Jamie's 30 Minute Meals' - has topped a poll of the best TV culinary experts, beating the the likes of Gordon Ramsay and Delia Smith to take the title after earning 15 per cent.

Gordon - whose programmes include 'Kitchen Nightmares' and 'The F Word' - took second place with 11 per cent of the vote, but the foul-mouthed cook shares the position with domestic goddess Delia, who gained the same percentage in the survey conducted amongst 2,000 people by digital TV service Freeview.

Meanwhile, BBC's amateur cooking competition 'MasterChef' - which first hit screens in 1990 and has spawned successful celebrity editions - has been named the top cookery programme of all time, beating 'The Great British Bake Off', which took second place.

Former 'Celebrity MasterChef' winner Lisa Faulkner said: "I'm not surprised 'MasterChef' has been voted as the favourite cookery programme of all time.

"That said, it's a shame our fascination for watching our favourite foodies hasn't had an effect on what we're cooking in our own kitchens. For me, the great thing about cookery programmes is they inspire me to try new dishes and show that making a good quality meal doesn't have to take hours."
