YORK Cubs edged out Rawcliffe 2-1 in the final of the York FA Junior Minor (Under-13s) Cup.
The Cubs led 2-0 at half-time in the showpiece of the Pavers Shoes-backed competition at York City’s Bootham Crescent ground.
Rawcliffe bossed the second half and scored late on, but they were unable to prevent the Cubs lifting the trophy.
York Cubs started the game well and their pressure paid off with a goal after ten minutes when a Tom Flatters cross was tapped in by Dan Zimmer from six yards.
Flatters then bagged a goal with a 15-yard shot into the top corner of the net after 30 minutes.
Rawcliffe’s second half fightback bore fruit late on when Donald Chimalilo beat three players from the halfway line and smashed the ball into the back of the net.
However, the strike came too late to change the outcome.
Adam Mierzwinski, of sponsors Pavers Shoes, presented the trophies.
York FA chairman Barry Casterton said: “We would like to thank York City for hosting York cup finals over three nights.
“Players and supporters were treated to a professional show by a professional club, with all seeing the hard work put into the excellent pitch by head groundsman Wayne Simpson. Rob Havercroft announced the teams, subs and scorers over the PA system and Paula Stainton’s Football in the Community team worked tirelessly throughout.”
