FAVOURITES Poppleton Tigers Under-12s lifted the York Mitchell Sports Football League Cup after a 3-1 victory over Pocklington Town.
Leading division one side Poppleton proved too strong for division two champions Pocklington in the final at York City’s Bootham Crescent ground.
Tigers broke the deadlock with a goal from Kain Rogerson, but Sam Noble equalised with a beautiful long distance shot over the Pop ’keeper.
The second half saw the Tigers up the pressure and they won the tie with goals from Thomas Palmer and Joseph Allerton.
The Plate was claimed by Rawcliffe, who beat fellow division one side Fulford 3-1 prior to the Poppleton versus Pocklington clash.
Rawcliffe’s early pressure was rewarded when Matty Wiggins scored the only goal of the first period.
After half-time Rawcliffe increased their lead to 3-0 through Lewis Brant and then Dan Moll.
Fulford scored through Will Turner but Rawcliffe held on to win an exciting match.
League chairman Barry Casterton presented the cup, while Pocklington received their division two medals and championship shield from league treasurer Christine Henderson. Old Malton St Mary’s were presented with their division three winners medals and shield by league vice-president John Flint.
