IN reply to the letter from Mr J McCartney headlined “Vaguely Disturbed” (Letters, April 29), I agree with much of what he says, but do feel that cat owners should make sure a bell is fitted on the cat to prevent them inflicting a long-suffering death on birds.

We have a large garden and are visited regularly by numerous cats. The cruel havoc they cause is dreadful and each week we see the remains of various birds.

Have these cat owners no conscience?
