WATCH us grow – that’s the glowing signal from Henry’s Gym owner Henry Wharton after the Acomb club notched up its first ring success.

The emphatic points win by his 15-year-old son Oscar has accorded a huge lift to the gym, the newest and biggest boxing gym in York.

And now would be the ideal opportunity for a sponsor to come aboard, said Wharton senior.

“After Oscar’s win – and I am so glad he has got that piece of history here – the whole gym was lifted by two or three gears,” he enthused.

“The rest of the lads from the youngsters to the seniors now know what can be achieved. They all want some of that success. It’s given everyone a huge boost.”

The one-time lord of the professional ring added how the club was scheduled to field more of its boxers in contests across the north of England over the next month.

“We aim to be busy between now and when the season starts to finish in September. The hunger is there and I believe it’s the best time for any would-be sponsors to get involved,” said Wharton.

“We are building something here. We have made the first step and we will be taking more steps into history. We are on our way.”
