A TRIO of newcomers filled the top three places in the opening men’s race of the York 10k Road Running League at Pocklington.
Ewan Brown took the lead from the outset and beat a record field of 297 in a quick time of 32 minutes 51 seconds.
Andy Munzer was second in 34-10, well clear of the University of York’s Richard Weeks, who clocked 35-08.
The women’s race was a more familiar battle as Emma Willits defeated Emma Yates by almost a minute to win in an impressive time of 37-38. They were well ahead of third-placed Liz Ensor, from Tadcaster.
The next race takes place at Tadcaster a week on Tuesday.
