HIKERS will be joined by bikers at a popular countryside pub after its plans for a new motoring museum were approved by local planners.
Landlord Vito Logozzi is to expand The Goodmanham Arms in Goodmanham, near Market Weighton, so he can display his collection of old motorbikes to customers and visitors.
The pub has long been popular with walkers on the Yorkshire Wolds Way as well as locals.
But Mr Logozzi and his wife Abbie want to expand to further broaden its appeal.
Parish councillors and a number of residents objected to the plans, concerned over increased traffic, noise, the loss of views and the loss of a right of way.
But East Riding of Yorkshire Council has now given them the go-ahead. Planning officer Alan Menzies said the plan would not harm the local area and a report to the planning committee said it was not believed the extension would lead to any heightened problems.
Mr Logozzi has a large collection of vintage bikes, cars and motoring memorabilia and many of the items are already on display in the pub, which the couple took over three years ago.
They opened a microbrewery last summer and the pub was named 2012 Village Pub Of The Year by the Hull and East Yorkshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.
Mr Logozzi told The Press previously that the museum would be partly for himself and partly for customers, and he hoped it would attract bike enthusiasts.
He said: “I want to create a little 1920s-style garage with the cars and bikes in – then we will have a brewery, a country pub and a museum as well.”
When the plans were unveiled earlier this year, he said: “It is my hobby but it could draw people in. It might become an attraction. People may decide to come for a day out and to look at the museum.”
