York opened their fixtures in division one of the York IT Sports Mixed Doubles Tennis League with a big win at Fulford seconds with Angus Smith and Wendy Stirke starting with a 12-0 success.

Top scorers of the week were Poppleton’s Nick Turnbull and Claire Smith who took 35 games against Fulford seconds.

York took the points at Poppleton led by Howard Pallister and Margaret Whitehead in division two, where Rufforth’s Ed Ziegler and Sue Yoward top-scored in beating newly-promoted David Lloyd.

Rowntree Park, the other promoted side, just had the edge in a keenly-fought match at Dunnington with top scorers Pete Jones and Angela Smith finishing with a 9-3 success.

Stillington’s Toby Pratt and Nikki Horne won an invaluable 28 games as they took the points in division three against a strong Dunnington team.

Chris Cheeseman and Lorraine Waudby were Wigginton’s match-winners in their game at York in division five.

Despite the best efforts of Wetherby Castlegarth’s unbeaten Jonathan Corke and Debbie Vines they ended up on the losing side at Cawood.

Jamie Winspear and Ellie Page won an impressive 28 games for Bishopthorpe at Rowntree Park.

A final 11-1 win by James Todd and Sara Grinnell grabbed the points for Dunnington against Stillington in division six.

Robert Rhodes and Rachel Booth were Dunnington’s aces in division ten against Sutton-upon-Derwent.
