A CHURCH youth group is celebrating its 30th anniversary and asking all former members to get involved.
Saint Andrew’s Church Lads Church Girls Brigade (CLCGB) was launched in 1983, and is part of a national organisation to build confidence and friendships among youg people, which has been running for more than 100 years.
Liz Stubbs is second lieutenant at the group, which is run by her husband Andrew, whose father Martin founded it in 1983.
She said: “We have about 50 or 60 members who come from Huntington, New Earswick, and Strensall, aged between five and 24 years old, and we run every Friday as a youth group, playing games and marching, that kind of thing. We also have a band who meet every Wednesday to perform military style marching music, and some modern pieces
“Our anniversary weekend will be held on September 28 and 29, with a football competition against other youth groups, and a reunion on the Saturday evening, for current and ex-members. I think we have had between 40 and 100 members on the books at any one time, so it would be good to see some of them again.”
On June 1, the national band of the CLCGB will perform at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, including about nine members of the St Andrew’s team, ahead of the main anniversary celebrations in September, which will also include a church service on Sunday, September 29.
Tickets for the performance on June 1 cost £5 and are available by phoning Jan Phillips on 01904 628121, emailing bizbeff@gmail.com or on the door. If you were a member of the group and want to find out more about the reunion weekend, email Liz on the address above.
