MUSEUM boss Ian Blatchford has criticised one of the other northern museums at risk of closure - the National Media Museum in Bradford.
The Science Museum Group’s director and chief executive told The Press’s sister paper, the Telegraph & Argus in Bradford, he felt the media museum had “lost its way”.
He was also not sure changing its name from the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television had been a good idea “because no-one understands what media means”.
Mr Blatchford has said previously one museum out of three in the north – the media museum, the NRM and the National Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester – would almost certainly close if further funding cuts went ahead.
But he said: “We are not making some easy choices. But out of the three museums, (Bradford) has drifted from its core mission.”
He said it had “enormous” potential and denied it was the intention to get it moved to London.
He was also really impressed that Professor Brian Cantor was moving from the University of York to Bradford University, which was a “fantastic partner” for the media museum.
