YORK’S newest venue for youth and children’s work has been officially opened.
There were speeches from church leaders and people were able to look around the new space at Basement Central, below the Central Methodist Church in St Saviourgate. There were also refreshments and entertainment by young people from St Michael le Belfrey.
Matthew Porter, vicar of St Michael’s, and Chris Humble, minister at Central Methodist, jointly cut the ribbon in front of about 80 people, young and old, from both churches.
St Michael le Belfrey has wanted a purpose building for York’s young people for 20 years, and earlier this year a partnership was formed with Central Methodist.
The renovation cost £13,000. It was funded by donations and carried out by staff and volunteers over Easter.
