YORK’S MPs have spoken of their delight after the threat of lcosure was lifted from the National Railway Museum.
As reported yesterday, Ian Blatchford, head of the museum’s parent organisation, this week confirmed the museum would not close, after Government funding cuts were less than feared.
Julian Sturdy, MP for York Outer, said: “It’s something everyone, including The Press, local politicians, and concerned residents, have been fighting for and looking for – reassurance the NRM is safe.
Hugh Bayley, MP for York Central, said: “We have won the argument for the museum to stay open, but funding is still a big issue. The NRM needs enough money to renovate and conserve its priceless collection and keep promoting the railway history in imaginative ways to the public.”
