PROUD Yorkshiremen and women marked Yorkshire Day with events across York and North Yorkshire.
In York, the Yorkshire Flag was flown above the Mansion House as members of the Yorkshire Ridings Society walked a circuit of the Bar Walls with the Yorkshire Flag, reading the Yorkshire “declaration of integrity” at a number of points along the route.
The Deputy Lord Mayor of York, Coun Keith Hyman, joined the celebration and read the final declaration in Parliament Street.
At the the Golden Ball in Bishophill, the success of Yorkshire athletes in last year’s Olympics was marked with a version of the Yorkshire Olympics, including welly wanging and flat-cap rolling. Exclusively Yorkshire beer was sold at the bar.
Even Richard III appeared to join in with the celebrations, when actor Chris Cade dressed up as the last Plantagenet monarch and donned an 18-carat gold boar badge which is up for sale to the highest bidder in a silent auction at the Yorkshire Museum.
Richard III, as played by Mr Cade, will be entertaining visitors to the museum from August 5 to August 25 to tell the tale of his rise and fall.
