HUNDREDS of people who were involved in last summer’s spectacular outdoor production of the York Mystery Plays are being invited to a reunion picnic in the Museum Gardens.
The York Mystery Plays Supporters Trust is organising the event at 4pm on Saturday at the bowling green to celebrate one year since the opening weekend of the hugely successful plays in the gardens.
Everyone involved last year is being urged to grab their picnic blankets and hampers and bring food and drink to the informal event. More than 1,700 local people joined forces with the city’s theatre professionals in last year’s plays, led by professional actors Ferdinand Kingsley and Graeme Hawley.
Alex Hughes, the chairman of the trust, said it was important that the positive feelings of local pride and community spirit generated then were kept going. Many friendships were formed during the course of the production so it will be great for people to get together once more, reminisce about past events and also look forward to future productions – including next year’s wagon plays.”
