EAR’S a picture of a contestant trying to win £1,000 by eating the most cobs of corn in 12 minutes.
The challenge was part of the annual UK Sweetcorn Eating Championships which took place at York Maze at the weekend, with the cash prize on offer to anyone who was able to break the world record of more than 46 ears of corn in 12 minutes, set in 2010.
Tom Pearcy, owner of the maze, said about 2,500 people visited the attraction on Saturday, with about 100 people attempting the challenge.
Tom said: “It was a rip-roaring event, but unfortunately we didn’t break the record.
“The best we did in the 12- minute timescale was nine cobs, and the second place was six-and-a-half.
‘‘It was a great day though, it always is.”
