When patients at St Leonard’s Hospice in York go out by wheelchair or sit in the garden they can now do it in style, thanks to the donation of seven hand-made quilts.
Nurse Janet Cunliffe is a member of a quilting group, Campsall Quilters, near her home, and the group regularly makes quilts for local charities.
Members decided to offer their quilts to St Leonard’s because of Janet’s work; formerly a full-time nurse at the hospice for nine years, she is now a “bank” nurse, working as required.
The seven brightly coloured quilts include two decorated with sunflowers, the emblem of the hospice, two with seaside scenes and another with chickens.
Emma Johnson, the hospice’s director of clinical services, said: “These beautiful quilts will keep our patients warm and cheerful if they are out and about in wheelchairs or if they sit in our attractive gardens. We are grateful to Janet and her fellow quilters for their very generous donation.”
