THE Yorkshire Air Museum in Elvington is planning a dramatic high-speed aircraft run to mark the anniversary of one if its star attractions’ arrival at the museum.
The nuclear bomber the Handley Page Victor V-bomber XL231, “Lusty Lindy”, will have been at the air museum for 20 years when it performs a 120-knot dash of the aircraft down Elvington airfield’s long runway on Monday. The spectacle is planned for 2.20pm, the exact moment the aircraft touched down at Elvington in 1993.
The Museum’s other “live” ground operational exhibit the Nimrod MR2 XV250, the ‘Mighty Hunter’, will also make a fast taxi down the runway before to the Victor’s run.
A special voucher for £10 will be available on the day to let visitors to see the aircraft at close quarters on the airfield, with proceeds going to the fuel costs for the aircraft runs.
