CROWDS gathered to see a nuclear bomber roar along the runway at Elvington airfield in celebration of a special anniversary.
Yesterday marked 20 years since the Handley Page Victor V-bomber XL231, or Lusty Lindy, first touched down at the Yorkshire Air Museum at 2.20pm on November 25, 1993.
The Lusty Lindy was started up and made a slow taxi down the runway, before turning and making a fast run and deploying its braking parachute for the 200-strong crowd.
Ahead of the Lusty Lindy, the Nimrod MR2 XV250 Mighty Hunter also made a fast taxi down the runway.
Ian Richardson, communications officer at the museum, said: “It went perfectly, it’s been a great day. The weather was beautiful and we had a good few people out to see it.”
Mr Richardson said he was very pleased with the turnout, and “both aeroplanes behaved themselves”.
