The Old Calcarians, a group of former pupils from Tadcaster Grammar School, have presented a new House Sports Day Shield to headteacher Geoff Mitchell.
Established in 1994 by Doug Pattinson and Ian Hall, The Old Calcarians group was set up for former students who attended the school when it was in Tadcaster on the old London Road, in the 1940s and 1950s.
Mr Pattinson said: “More than 100 attended the first reunion and it has been going ever since, with members spread throughout the country, and even the world, coming to functions from as far away as New Zealand and Canada.
“We had built up a surplus of funds and decided we wanted to offer the money to the school.”
Mr Pattinson contacted Mr Mitchell and it was suggested that a house sports day shield would be a good way of spending the money as it would have “the biggest impact and benefit the largest number of students”.
PE teacher Paul Walker said: “The new shield is a very welcome addition to our collection of shields and trophies and will have its first presentation during 2014 Sports Day.”
