Album of the year: Public Service Broadcasting, Inform, Educate, Entertain (Test Card)
WHEN can you last think of a band that was truly original, truly groundbreaking? There was Roxy, of course, The Pistols, definitely, but we’re going back four decades.
A more recent case could be argued for Bellowhead, but this year Public Service Broadcasting most certainly joined this illustrious and exclusive club.
If by any chance this comes as news, you are missing out.
PSB mixes Eighties electronica with Forties propaganda films to produce music that is fresh, unique and extraordinary.
The band is, if anything, better live and in the autumn we were treated to their highly anticipated DVD. Go on, treat yourself to both.
Also rans:
Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Push The Sky Away.
Midlake, Antiphon.
Arctic Monkeys, AM.
Depeche Mode, Delta Machine.
