Album of the Year: Goldheart Assembly, Long Distance Song Effects (New Music Club)
WITH a soaring, orchestral sound that makes crude comparisons with Mumford And Sons seem idotic, Goldheart Assembly produced a record reminiscent of Radiohead at their brilliant OK Computer peak.
Anthemic verses were offset by poignant and desolate sounds in a collection that was vandalised when it was described by some reviewers as folk-pop.
A stunning record from the London five-piece who, if there is any justice, are surely bound for big things.
The Just Give It A Chance Award: The Strokes, Comedown Machine (Rough Trade).
The Not So Super Group: Atoms For Peace, Amok (XL).
The “they’ve released yet another record” Award: Kings Of Leon, Mechanical Bull (RCA).
Best Newcomer: The Strypes, Snapsot, (Virgin).
