HAVING witnessed the fantastic celebrations of last New Year’s Eve at the Minster, I can only say that this year was a huge let-down.
As usual thousands of people gathered to see in the New Year. The difference was that this year there were no lights, no countdown, no music and no fireworks. Apart from the Minster bells sounding midnight, there was nothing else offered to see in 2014.
While I accept that last year was also the culmination of the city’s 800th anniversary celebrations, I cannot understand why something similar (even if on a smaller scale), could not be sorted out for this year.
A city the size of York deserves far better. Shame on you, City of York Council!
