HAVING seen the plans for the new £19 million office development in Hungate, my initial reaction was that this was a stark contrast in design from the Stonebow monstrosity.

Considering we retain most of our historical buildings in good order, this modern design is reminiscent of the multangular Roman tower in the Museum Gardens.

Apart from generating employment, one can assume the building is eco-friendly. However I have reservations when it comes to employing a reputable window cleaning firm, which will have the task of a round-the-clock maintenance contract to emulate the painting of the Forth Bridge.
