BIG traffic jams have built up after a barrier at a level crossing in Haxby became stuck.
Network Rail said a response team was on its way to the crossing to tackle the problem, but had been delayed by the jams.
A spokeswoman said the barrier became stuck down at 10.34am today, preventing vehicles from using the crossing over the York to Scarborough line.
On arrival at the crossing, the team would liaise with signalling staff to safely operate the barrier manually and allow traffic to flow again, until it could be repaired.
